1953 A.J.S. 350
Owner - Keith

Not what you would call standard, someone did this in the 80's (I have the recipts) the plan is to keep to the same off road style but with competiton tank and seat and rebiuld the wheels to 18 and 21 inch with off road tyres. I have been planing to do this for the last 2 years but it is too much fun to take off the road at the moment

TRIUMPH 750cc T140V US SPEC (NEARLY!) YEAR -1978. ACQUIRED - 2001. RESTORED - 2004/5. OWNER - Keith.

Bought as a unfinished chop Keith set about restoring the bike to showroom condition. New bits include:- Wheel rims and spokes. Fork legs. Seat. Exhaust. Boyer ignition. Rear stainless mudguard. Barrels and pistons. Spindle rockers --  this is stainless rocker shafts with bigger "OF" rings (so the buggers don't leak oil). All new wires. And nice shiny paint (red candy over a silver base) and 2 pack black for the frame. Some people like stove enamel, but when it chips it leaves a crater. Some people like powder coating, but when this gets a chip not only does this leave a chip it lets in moisture in and its nigh imposable to stop the rust and that bubbles up under the good bits at least if its 2 pack you can rub it down and blow it in. The handle bars T140 US bars I've always thought are ok if you like that sort of thing, I mean you can't go wrong with a good set of apes but the US ones I find a bit dweeb don't you?, on the other hand the wider the better (or is it just me?), so a nice set of pre-65 trials bars were bolted on (mmm nice!!). All Triumph bits came from Len craig & sons 01493 854680  (Great yarmouth). Paint was by Simon Clarke 01206 575863  (Colchester). All the bits were bolted together and wired up by Keith.

Bill says the only thing he has done to the bike is take the "BARN DOOR" fairing off, other than that its just running maintenance, that just shows how good this British stuff still is (or maybe he`s just riding it into the ground).

The mighty yam 650. They call it the Japanese Bonneville. The boys in the land of the sun got this one right nearly on the first go, the bendy frame let them down, along with twin leading shoe front and drum rear. Then they built a better frame to go with a nearly unbreakable motor. These things have roller bearing big end, gear driven primary, the overhead cam is rollerbearing. These motors are used in motor cross outfits (normally taken out to 850 cc), grass track (850 or 900 and run on methanol and they still don`t blow up.) trackmaster make a frame for flattracking them. Drag and sprint racing, I have seen two of these motors strapped together and long stoke conversions on bringing each motor up to 925cc and run on nitro (the heads had to be strapped on) but unfortunately the big drive belt that connected the two motors ate itself  after the first run.

The Ariel leader was made from 1958 - 65. A futuristic two-stoke, as part of the B.S.A.group this was designed from scratch for mass transport in 1955 offering low maintenance and full weather protection. They also made the `Golden Arrow' which was the sports version this had a new cylinder head with more power and was unfaired. Ariel finished production in 1965 and with it the production of 17,000 was not enough to stop the japs.

Brian has done a splendid job on the restoration and has been to lots of rallies including Warwick.
