Margaretting
Tye 2006

A telephone call from Pete on the Saturday night confirmed that the club run organised for Sunday morning to the White Hart at Margaretting Tye was off, due to the forecast weather. Wot a bunch of girls-a few snow flurries and a hint of cold air!? I determined to set off none-the-less, and on a glorious sunny Sunday morning, suffered no more than cold fingers by the time I pulled in to the car park at the White Hart. The designated car park area soon filled up and had to be expanded to accommodate the steady trickle of bikes rolling in, a lot of which I watched from the comfort of indoors over a hot coffee and a sandwich, provided at a very reasonable rate-for the landlord's pocket at least!! A venture outside revealed an array of machinery from the 1930s to the present day, some restored and others in original and used trim. Some particularly caught my eye; a brace of very tidy Triumph twins, a trio of BSA café racers which rolled in together and a beautiful, shiny, old Sunbeam, not far from a well used Triumph TRW, with a healthy puddle of oil underneath it. A modern well worked Royal Enfield diesel engined bike seemed to attract a lot of attention too. Bikes were still arriving as I left in the early afternoon for a very pleasant run home. It was, all in all , an enjoyable event. Curly |
