The first thing to be said about Lydden is that it is a very
spectator friendly circuit as you can see about 95% of the track
from just about anywhere. There were two races each day for each
class of bike to compete in with a wide variety of machines being
put through their paces. CCMCC members Neil Bartle & Zoe
Reynolds (BSA A10 650 outfit), competing in event 8 - Frenni Transport
LTD Championship for sidecar outfits(unlimited cc to 1958) had a
frustrating weekend again as they were plagued with an annoying
missfire much the same as the previous round at Pembrey. Between
race time was filled with trying various carb settings (many thanks
to Kevin Stuart - No 18 BSA A10 solo - for lending them a smaller
main jet) and ignition timing settings. With all of these troubles
to contend with, Neil & Zoe finished all of their races without
coming last in any of them while clocking faster lap times with
each passing lap. Someone who did have a very good weekend was
No 200 Roger Mitchell, competing in event 3 - Aston Road Garage
Championship for solos 251 - 350cc to 1962 and event 2 - Gibson
Exhaust Championship for solos up to 250cc to 1962. In the 350 event,
Roger finished each of his four races in 5th place but when you
consider that he was riding a BSA B40 and was up against BSA Gold
Stars, Manx Nortons and Velocette Vipers he did bloody well. In
the 250 event riding a very quick BSA C15 Roger claimed two well
deserved wins on Saturday and two 2nds on Sunday, these went with
a 2nd place earned at Pembrey. A friendly, very familiar face
competing in event 7B - Moss Engineering Championship for solo specials
over 500cc to 1972 on Saturday was No 185, 750cc Seeley Weslake
mounted Robert Knox from Trimley in Suffolk. Those of us who used
to frequent Revetts in Ipswich will remember Robert from his time
spent behind the spares counter. He now runs T8 Triumph Spares (01394
279929 or E-mail: sales@t8ts.co.uk or visit www.t8ts.co.uk), so
if you need any Triumph bits give him a call.
There should now follow a selection of pics from Lydden. -
